Privacy policy
The short version
This is a reference site with no accounts and no sign-up forms. We don't collect names, emails or profiles ourselves. The mileage calculator runs entirely in your browser — the numbers you type are never transmitted to us or anyone else. The site does display advertising served by Google, and Google's ad technology uses cookies and similar tools, described below with your opt-out choices.
Advertising and cookies (Google AdSense)
We use Google AdSense to show ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
Your choices:
— Opt out of personalized advertising from Google at Google Ads Settings.
— Opt out of many third-party vendors' personalized ads at www.aboutads.info/choices (US) or youronlinechoices.com (EU/UK).
— How Google uses data when you use our partners' sites is explained at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, a consent message will ask for your choice before personalized ads or their cookies are used; you can decline and receive non-personalized ads (which use cookies only for purposes like frequency capping and fraud prevention), and you can change your choice later via the "Privacy settings" link the consent tool provides.
What else is collected
Hosting logs. The site is served by Cloudflare. Like any host, Cloudflare processes technical request data (IP address, user agent, requested URL) to deliver pages and protect against abuse; its handling is described in Cloudflare's privacy policy. We don't use this data to identify you.
Email. If you write to us, we receive what you send and use it only to respond and act on it (for example, publishing a correction). We don't add you to mailing lists and we delete correspondence when it's no longer needed.
We do not sell personal information for money. Under some US state laws, allowing third-party advertising cookies can count as "sharing" or a "sale" of personal information — the opt-outs above, and the consent/privacy-choices tool where shown, are how you exercise that choice on this site.
Your rights
EEA/UK (GDPR): where Google or other vendors process personal data for ads on the basis of your consent, you may withdraw consent at any time via the consent tool. You also have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection over personal data we hold (which, in practice, is limited to email you've sent us), and the right to complain to your supervisory authority.
US states (California and others): depending on your state, you may have rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out of sale/sharing of personal information, without discrimination for exercising them. Use the opt-out links above for advertising cookies, or email us for anything relating to data we hold directly.

Children
The site is general-audience tax reference material, is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your jurisdiction), and we knowingly collect no information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email privacy@mileagerates.com and we will delete it.
Data security and retention
The site is static — there are no databases of user data to breach. Email correspondence is retained only as long as needed to handle the matter and meet legal obligations.
Third-party links
Pages link to government sources (irs.gov, gov.uk, canada.ca, ato.gov.au) and occasionally other sites. Their privacy practices are their own.
